Dr. Thijs Urlings

Thijs Urlings is an Assistant Professor and Researcher at the section Innovation and Public Sector Efficiency within the faculty of Technology, Policy and Management of Delft University of Technology. He concentrates on the sectors Police & Justice, and Education. Currently, he is the project leader of Benchmarking and competition: productivity and effectiveness of police corpses.

Thijs finished the doctorate program Statistics and Optimisation in the Universidad Politécnica de Valencia, where he obtained the cum laude distinction and the title of European Ph.D. His research consisted in the application of advanced algorithms for solving highly realistic machine scheduling problems. The resulting thesis is a contribution on closing the gap between theory and practice in this field. The Universidad Politécnica de Valencia awarded him with the price Premio Extraordinario de Tesis Doctoral. During his Ph.D., Thijs worked for the research group Sistemas de Optimisación Aplicada of the ITI. A part of his research was established as a guest researcher in IRIDIA, research institute of the Université Libre de Bruxelles.

Earlier, he received his Master's in Maastricht University, where he studied Econometrics & Operational Research. He spent four months of his studies at Université Toulouse1.
