Optimising freight transport systems: is this the only issue?

Freight transportation systems have been looked at as operational optimization problems for many years, and at the same their importance underestimated and their impact perhaps overstated.
The changes already occurring in the urban freight logistics system demand a broader approach. New developments in the field of information availability, business models, governance arrangements and consumer engagement strongly suggest that many of our current working paradigms on policy making, system optimization and transport modeling need to be rethought.
This seminar is intended for researchers who would like to reconsider the key issues in freight transport from a broader perspective than private supply chains, and who work in the many different fields that interface (or interfere) with freight transport systems.
Marcus Wigan is, amongst other affiliations, Emeritus Professor at Napier University, and (as Oxford Systematics, an active partner in GAMUT (VREF Centre of Excellence in the Governance and Management of Urban Transport). He has worked in freight systems policy and analysis in both government line management and various research capacities for forty years, and is Emeritus Member of the TRB Transportation Data Committee.

Bachelorstudent wint scriptieprijs
Wouter van Straten heeft met zijn bachelorscriptie de tweede plaats behaald voor de E-mobiliteitsprijs! De prijs beloont de (universitaire of HBO) scriptie die de kennis van elektrisch vervoer het meest vooruit helpt. De E-mobiliteit scriptieprijs is opgezet en gefinancierd door elf lezers van NRC Handelsblad met de bedoeling om zowel de kennisinfrastructuur als de verduurzaming van Nederland een zetje te geven. De E-mobiliteit scriptieprijs 2011 is op de Dag van de Duurzaamheid uitgereikt.
Het onderzoek had het doel om de preferenties van de consument met betrekking tot de elektrische auto beter in kaart te brengen. De impact van beleidsingrepen op de keuzekans voor de elektrische auto was het belangrijkste speerpunt van het onderzoek. Er is een stated choice experiment opgesteld waaraan 250 respondenten hebben deelgenomen. De aanschafkosten, brandstofkosten, actieradius, beschikbaarheid snellaadpunten en de beschikbaarheid langzaamlaadpunten zijn in het stated choice experiment meegenomen. Met behulp van mixed logit is bepaald dat een subsidie van snellaadpunten de beste mix van efficiëntie en effectiviteit heeft. Door de invoering van deze subsidie zou de doelstelling van 200.000 elektrische auto's in 2020 (ministerie van I&M) gehaald kunnen worden.
