Bring together engineers and social scientists
Our research endeavours to really bring together engineers and social scientists. We are committed to collaboratively solving real-world problems at the interface of technology, economy and society. We address challenges such as the design and governance of complex systems and networks, with energy, transportation, water and telecommunications infrastructures as prime examples. We also develop approaches that allow designers to deal with ethical, moral and other values in the design of a new system or service. And we research the dynamics of high-tech innovation processes and entrepeneurship. In developing our theoretical perspectives on these problems we unite a systems perspective, rooted in the engineering sciences, with an actor perspective, rooted in the social sciences. It goes without saying that the most fascinating developments and discussions concentrate on this interface of systems and actors. The fact that we are solving real-world problems results in many visible and productive industry-academic partnerships and it gives our research community a wonderfully vibrant atmosphere.
