Delft Centre for Project Management
About us
Profile
In recent years there has been a significant increase in the complexity of projects and therefore in the sophistication of project management. The origins of this can be found in, for example, the increase in the number of parties involved, the management of an increasing number of risks, managing the increasing complexity of these risks, the assignment of responsibilities and liabilities, and a heated contracting market.
Due to this increase in complexity on several fronts, various large organisations in the Netherlands (both profit and non-profit) have become interested in professionalising their internal project management.
The Faculty of Technology, Policy and Management (TPM) of the Delft University of Technology (TU Delft) recognises a strategic advantage in responding to this trend. To this end, in 2006 the Delft Centre for Project Management (DCP) was established. The aim of the DCP is to conduct interdisciplinary research in the field of project management while also providing education (minor, Master’s and executive programmes) in this area. The Centre’s activities are focused on the management of technically complex projects in multi-actor environments in accordance with the goals of the TPM Faculty.
The DCP functions as an integrator for project management activities within TU Delft and as an external portal – for project management. In this respect the DCP may be regarded predominantly as a virtual organisation (organised – like a real project – as a matrix within the TPM Faculty and the TU Delft as a whole), incorporated into the faculty’s research and education framework.
Mission Statement
The Delft Centre of Project Management (DCP) aims at teaching of and performing academic research into modern project management. For that aim it closely co-operates with a wide range of (international) companies, research institutes and government bodies.
